（コミュニケーション能力を高めるために）

　海外旅行で一番苦労するのが言葉の問題である。筆者もいまだにリスニングはおろか，スピーキングも苦手である。そこで，何とか自分の意思を最低限相手に伝え、コミュニケーションをとるためはどうしたらよいかをまとめてみた。

　A.一般的注意事項

１、キーワードを，大きな声で、ゆっくりと
　　キーワードを大きな声でゆっくりとしゃべること。とくに，最初に上手くしゃべりすぎると，相手はこちらの語学力を過大評価し，理解能力を超えたスピードで話しかけてくることが多いので注意が必要。

２、ジェスチャーも入れること
　言葉と同時にジェスチャーも入れるとよい。例えば，道をたずねるときは地図を示しながら聞くとよい。Body language　は国によって多少の違いはあっても万国共通の言語である。

３、相手が英語を母国語としないとき
　そのときは，余計な言葉は省略し，キーワード（できれば単語）だけでたずねたほうが意思疎通がスムースにいく。

４、ショッピング
　基本的に，買い物に言葉は不要である。店側は会話が上手くて買ってくれない客よりも，言葉は不自由でも実際に買ってくれる客のほうを喜ぶ。日本国内で買い物をするときでも，いちいち店の人と言葉を交わすことは少ないのではないか。値段が聞き取れないときは，紙に書いてもらえばよい。

５、リズムを大切に
　会話にはリズム(強弱)が大切である。日本の新幹線に乗っていると，
　　　　　　　We will soon make a brief stop at Kyoto.
　などのように，｢強・弱，強・弱」（色の濃い部分が強く、薄い部分が弱い）のリズムで発音されていることに気がつく。リスニングの時にはとくに動詞に神経を集中するとよい。

　B.覚えておくと役に立つフレーズ

　海外旅行特有の表現がとっさに出てこなくて，困ったことが何回かある。ここでは，とくに用いられる頻度が高く、かつ易しい表現だけを集めてみた。
